||2K Cineon 1D LUT images muddy

I have 2K media in Cineon 10bit log 23.98. Now, as the cineon files were originally graded for film output on an ArriLaser, and the negative has already been printed, I need to convert them to video color space in order to be able to output my video masters. I figured I should use a simple straight LUT in Combustion or AE and then add an NTSC filter over the whole thing. I know it won't be as correct as using a 3D LUT.
So far, I've been unable to find a setting that is good enough as a starting point. I've attempted all the suggetions listed on Prolost, but whenever I apply the LUT my image seems extremely dark and contrasty, to the point that many of the images are no longer visible. (It seems to be like I'm double-converting 8-bit, however my sources are definitely Cineon).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
